You ask for "drop test passed." We say "price goes up." Sometimes you accept it. Sometimes you hesitate. Let's walk through what it actually means for your bottom line.
What is drop test?
Drop test simulates real-world shipping damage. A fully packed carton is dropped from a set height onto a hard surface - edges, corners, and flat sides. The test checks if the product survives or breaks.
It's not a random toss. It follows standard procedures like ISTA 1A, 2A, or 3A. Different levels simulate different risks: single drop, multiple drops, or full pallet drops.

Why does drop test cost more?
Because standard packaging isn't designed to survive a fall. Here's what changes when drop test is required:
| Packaging | Standard | Drop Test Level |
|
Foam thickness |
10-15mm |
20-30mm or custom molded |
|
Carton material |
Single wall |
Double wall or 5-layer |
|
Inner structure |
Basic fill |
Dividers, edge reinforcement |
|
Packing time |
Fast |
Slower, more careful |
These extras add up - typically 10–20% higher packaging cost. Plus the test itself costs time and samples. That's why the price changes.
When should you insist on drop test?
Choose the plan that suits you best.
Sea freight :long voyage, stacking, vibration. High risk.
Multi-stop delivery :more handling, more chances to drop.

Customers with high return rates:they've seen damage before. They'll blame you if it happens again.
Fragile products:large LED mirrors, glass cabinets, anything over 1.5m.
You tell us your shipping route and handling conditions. We recommend a test level (ISTA 1A / 2A / 3A) and we run the test with a sample packed carton. If it fails, we adjust packaging and test again. Once passed, we use that exact packing method for your full order. We provide a test report for your reference.

What to expect when drop test is required
Drop test requires extra time and preparation. A sample unit must be packed using the proposed shipping carton and foam, then tested at a certified facility or in-house equipment. The test may need to be repeated if the first attempt fails.
Most buyers arrange this during the sample stage, before mass production. That way, any packaging adjustment is done early - not after the full order is packed.
We recommend confirming drop test requirements before we start production. Once the packing method is verified and passed, we apply the same standard to the full shipment.
